As the preparation for local government council elections in Ogoja gains momentum, the electorate has been urged to scrutinise candidates and choose credible persons that can drive change.
In a conversation with our correspondents, Amb. Hart Modey a politician and ambassador for Peace stressed the need for the candidates to provide clear manifestos stating their plans for the local government area
“In the upcoming elections, the Ogoja local government council stands as a critical opportunity for change. Choosing representatives is not just about casting votes; it’s about selecting individuals who genuinely understand and address our community’s needs. We must approach this decision with careful consideration and a critical eye. The implications of our choices can shape our community’s future, making it essential to be selective in our process”.
He further noted that “candidates posters have appeared across the locality however, these posters fail to provide a clear vision or plan for our community. Effective leadership requires more than mere advertising; it demands an understanding of local issues and solutions to tackle them. Voters deserve more than flashy campaigns; they deserve transparency and commitment from those seeking their trust. We need to ask important questions about candidates’ qualifications and their genuine intentions for Ogoja”.
Amb. Modey called on the people of Ogoja not to be carried away by sentiments or swayed by theatrical performances but to base their choice of candidates on conviction.
“In this election cycle, let’s strive for informed decisions. Engage with candidates, scrutinize their proposals, and hold them accountable for their promises. We must unite in valuing candidates who prioritize the community’s well-being over empty slogans. Our vote can drive meaningful change in Ogoja—not just at the polls, but in the following years of leadership. Let’s make our voices count”.
