Ogoja-Bekwarra-Katsina Ala Highway: Forum Demands Urgent Rehabilitation

Concerned citizens of Northern Cross River State under the Who is Who Forum in Northern Cross River State have condemned the neglect of the Ogoja-Bekwarra – Katsina Ala federal highway linking Ogoja to the North through Benue State which they say is currently in a deplorable state.

A statement signed by Dorm Kclaimz Enamhe and Mr Johny Agim ( SAN) conveners of the Who is Who Forum in Northern Cross River State notes that the road which has been in bad shape for some years has deteriorated to a point where some portions between Abuochichie and Ijibor both in Bekwarra Cross River State are no longer pliable forcing heavy duty vehicles and other cars to seek alternative routes intra the small villages and towns causing further damage.

“Of utmost concern right now is the Abuochiche-Ijibor stretch which has been rendered completely non pliable with a huge muddy gully splitting the road in the middle”.

“We cannot continue to be silent in the midst of this unfortunate circumstances that threatens our safety and means of livelihood as a people since commercial activities have been impacted negatively with movement of goods and passengers a herculean task”.

They further stated that the portions which are no longer motorable have led to fatal motor accidents, build up of traffic and loss of valuable man hours.

“Our People are tired of living with this menace of a road, we want it fixed now “.

The forum demanded that the federal government, state government , lawmakers from the state as well as relevant stakeholders as a matter of urgency should ensure the roads are fixed to enable the people of Northern Cross River State go about their businesses and end a livelihood as commercial activities have been negatively impacted by the deplorable state of the road which should enable transport of goods and services to and from the North .
