The need to forge new partnerships as well as embrace innovative ideas has been emphasized..The Chairman International Real Estate Conference and Exhibition Mr Franklin Ajayi made the call during his opening remarks at the 2024 IRECE holding at the ICC Exhibition pavilion in Abuja.
Mr Ajayi who appreciated all who made the event possible said It is time to conquer more frontiers, collaboration and expansion to reap greater benefits as real estate players.
He also said vital challenges like building collapse need to be addressed hence the theme of the conference this year
On his part, the National president Real Estate Developers Association of Nigetia Mr Akintoye Adeoye commended the organizing team for the timely event . According to him the significance cannot be understated especially with the various incidences of building collapse in Nigeria which he said not only leads to loss of lives and individual property but also tells on the economy.
He therefore called for adoption of global best practices alongside sttict enforcement of national building code, clear accountability for negligence with sanctions to those found culpable to serve as a deterrent .
While the president appealed to stakeholders to place value on human lives he also asked that Nigeria takes a cue from other countries in observing global best practices.
Also speaking at the event, the national Vice President REDAN, Mr Nuel Osilama reminded the participants that for each incident of building collapse, a stakeholders along the value chain is responsible and called for strict investigations and sanctions in the event of such mishap . According to him” it is a matter of life and death and a call to action”.
The Chairman of REDAN in Abuja, Dr. Anthony Ehikioya lamented that in Nigeria building collapsed majorly happen in Lagos, Abuja, Portharcourt and other big cities where monitoring and impact assessment is meant to be higher, in his opinion, it is questionable that despite supervision of building drawings and actualization buildings still collapse.
” You now ask yourself, these buildings are properly approved, the quantities are specified ,supervisions are done and at the end of the day these buildings still collapse, you ask yourself what happened? It is corruption
The 3 day IRECE 2024 which saw a high turnout of stakeholders from real estate sector, academia, administrators and investors on day 1 has as its theme,Arresting Building Collapse ,the Economic Devastation
High point of the event is a raffle draw in which participants are expected to win free plots of land.
