Nigerians have been urged to emulate the virtues of selflessness and kindness as demonstrated by the late RT.Hon Joseph Wayas. Rev Father Jake Otonko gave the admonition at the requiem Mass organised in honor of the Late Senate President by his wife Mrs Ishaka Wayas at the Church of Assumption Asokoro.
In his homily, Fr. Otonko recounted the feats attained by the late Icon who he described as a pacesetter being first from Northern Cross River in all aspects of his career ranging from Commissioner to the Senate
According to the priest, the Kate Joseph Wayas was a very thorough person and showed great attention to details
He called on all to pray for the repose of his soul as well as for God’s protection on the family.
Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo speaking at the mass extolled the exemplary life of the leader who he said shunned materialism choosing instead to give to everyone who needed around him. He recounted how Dr Wayas used his contacts and position to assist a lot of persons from Cross River State and beyond to get placements .


Present at the Mass were dignitaries from the state including Sen Victor Ndoma Egba, Hon Cletus Obin, Justice Eneji, Dr Pius Tawo and his wife, Dr Don Kclaimz Enamhe,convener Who is Who Forum in Northern Cross River, Compol Lawrence Alobi RTD, Chief Igim Modey, Chief Sankara Dickson, Rtd Gen. Moses Obi, Hon. Rhoda Achong Vice- Chairperson Obudu LGA among others.
In a related development, after the requiem Mass, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections Sir Peter Obi paid a condolence visit to the family of Dr Wayas at their residence in Asokoro. He apologized for not making it to the mass due to unforeseen circumstances.

Sir Peter Obi quoting from the scriptures urged the family to be courageous and trust God as those who seek solace in him cannot be forsaken . He prayed for God to strengthen them as they strive to cope with the vacuum created by the loss of their father.
