Following the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over her rift with the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Peace Ambassador,Amb. Hart Modey has called for a review of the Senate’s decision.
In a statement made available to Newsannex,Amb. Modey lamented the vacuum that leaving her Senatorial district without a voice for 6 months will cause.
“The suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan leaves Kogi Central without a voice in the National Assembly. For six months, the people she represents will lack direct advocacy in legislative matters. This void raises concerns about fair representation and democratic participation”.
Modey , stresses the need for continuous representation to ensure that the interests and issues of Kogi Central are addressed without interruption adding that the absence of a senator disrupts governance at a time when every constituency needs active participation in national discourse.
Commenting on the speed with which a decision was made, he says it suggests a need for the Senate to revisit their judgment.
According to him “Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension seems rushed, bypassing deeper consideration of its consequences. Revisiting her case would not only restore representation but also demonstrate the Senate’s commitment to fairness and transparency. This approach fosters trust in the legislative process and reassures constituents that their voices matter and their needs won’t be sidelined due to hasty decisions., the crux of the matter was not even considered instead it was covered up with a suspension., the duration is just too long for a case that was never investigated”.
This comes on the heels of the declaration of the Senate President at the international women’s day celebration hosted by him at the old senate building and attended by the Minister of women affairs Hajiya Imaan Suleiman- Ibrahim and leaders of various women groups, that he is open to reconciliation when the topic was broached.
