World Meteorological Day 2025 : NiMet DG Harps on Closing Early Warning Gaps

The need to close the gaps in early warning systems in order to reduce losses due to climate issues, has been emphasized. The Director-General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), Professor Charles Anosike, made the call during the celebration of the World Meteorological Day in Abuja.

The Theme for the 2025 World Meteorological Day is closing the early warning gap. In his address, the Director- General (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, said modernized hydrometeorological infrastructure, is key to strengthening forecast and early warning.

He further stressed the need for strong collaboration, coordination and cooperation between national and international partners, policy makers , private sector and local community especially the youths as government alone cannot do everything.

Prof Anosike paid glowing tribute to Professor Godwin Obasi former secretary general of the WMO for his role in recognizing and drawing awareness to early warning and disaster risk management.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes to schools that participated in an essay competition on the theme of the World Meteorology day.
