As the world marks the International Day of the Seafarer 2025, Maritime Advocate and Master Seafarer Captain Caleb Danladi has called for an end to workplace harassment in the Maritime industry.

In a statement made available to Newsannex, Captain Danladi called on stakeholders in the sector to take firm action against harassment and bullying at sea.
While highlighting the pivotal rule Seafarers play in the global economy, he lamented the abuse, intimidation and discrimination on ships.
According to him, “Seafarers deserve to work in an environment where they feel safe, a harassment free ship is not a privilege it is a right “.
He further emphasized the need to rid ships of abuse in the interest of all Seafarers regardless of nationality, gender or rank.
Commenting on the theme for this year which is ‘ My harassment free ship’, Captain Danladi says ” it is a global standard we must all commit to”, adding ” we must build ships where every crew member feels heard, protected and empowered”.

He called on all shipowners, operators and Maritime institutions to implement clear anti-harrasment policies , ensure confidential reporting channels and include workplace ethics in Seafarer training. This he said is to ensure the dignity , safety and mental well being of Seafarers.
