The FG says it will address the challenges facing NiDCOM diaspora engagement so as to harvest maximally the benefits of migration.
President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume made the remark during the 2025 National Diaspora Day at the banquet hall of the presidential villa, Abuja.
President Tinubu further gave assurance that this administration will continue” to provide an enabling platform for effective policies for the Diaspora with the view to galvanizing your support for this administration and concretizing our democracy, optimizing your potentials and setting a good example for other African countries to emulate”.
In her remarks, the Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,Hon.. Abike Dabiri-Erewa while acknowledging the Diaspora for their contributions to national growth and philanthropy
“Our diaspora are known for hard work, resilience, patriotism and they are highly productive . They are also barrier breakers and Pacesetters in their different fields of endeavour. It therefore behoves on us to celebrate our very best not minding that a few do fall below standard”.
In their goodwill messages, the IOM, NHRC and other organizations applauded NiDCOM for their consistency and various programs and interventions for Diaspora which is reflected in the increased diaspora remittance. They called for expansion of political participation including voting rights.
High point of the event was the unveiling of the Home and Abroad platform which will protect diaspora from getting scammed while trying to build.
The platform which has NiDCOM,First Bank and the developer involved will verify the land and property before payment is made .
Other features of the event include panel discussions and performances by the African American dance group and others.
