VP Zone D
… Says zone has highest number of female officers
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Vice President, Zone D, (North Central), Mrs Chizoba Ogbeche, has expressed confidence in three members of the zone: Comrade Tongnaan Bawa, who was elected as National Auditor of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ); Nancy Orshi, who was appointed as NUJ Board of Trustees for Zone D; as well as Hadizah Umar, who was appointed as NUJ National Ex-officio for Zone D.

The vice president in a congratulatory press statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Juliana Ofoku, Wednesday in Lafia, commended the trio, who were inaugurated during the just concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kano State, for their outstanding contributions to NAWOJ and NUJ which earned them the confidence of the union members for election and appointments to the different positions.
Ogbeche noted that the three distinguished national officers had, at different times, served NAWOJ and NUJ at the state, zonal, and national levels, in different capacities; just as she expressed optimism that the women leaders would effectively represent the NAWOJ and all female journalists while undertaking their new responsibilities in the mother union, NUJ.
While urging the members of the zone to accord them the needed support and cooperation to excel in their new roles, she noted that Zone D was the only zone with three female members in the NUJ NEC.
According to the vice president, the representations were testament of the diligence and leadership abilities of female journalists in the zone.
She commended the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, and the first female NUJ Deputy National President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aisha Ibrahim, and all members of NUJ NEC for the confidence reposed in the new officials and pledged the readiness to support the projects and programmes of the NUJ in order to take the Union to greater heights.
