By Ada Nkong

Following a public lamentation of Miss Rita Ushie an indigene of Cross River State , who complained on her social media handle about the insufficiency of the then 33,000 naira allowance paid to Corp members ,  eliciting mixed reactions and a backlash from NYSC’ officials about her not receiving her discharge certificate after completing her mandatory youth service in Lagos state, the Who is Who in Northern Cross River State, an advocacy group is appealing to the Director General National Youth Service Corp to intervene and assist her secure her Discharge certificate.

In a statement made available to our correspondent jointly signed by the conveners of the group, Papa DC Enamhe and Johnny Agim ( SAN) , the concerned WWNCR said “while she may have acted contrary to NYSC’ s expectations from serving corpers by going public with her complaint, it will leave an impression that her freedom of speech rights are being violated if she is punished for speaking out”.

They also pointed to the fact that the NYSC’ scheme is for Youths and at that stage in life, tact and hindsight is still being acquired, asking that she be excused if her actions may have given off an air of youthful exuberance.
” On behalf of the people of Cross River North, we appeal that her NYSC’ certificate be released to her to enable her to continue her future endeavors and put to use the knowledge and experience gained during the service year”.

The group commended the NYSC’ for the entrepreneurship training afforded corpers which will equip them with skills needed to thrive in today’s world as well as the increased allowance which is enabling Corp members to live a better quality of life.
