In a bid to contribute to Africa’s transformation, former Imo State First Lady, and founder of the non-governmental organisation, the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative, WODDI, Dr. (Mrs.) Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, has inaugurated a technical committee on the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Speaking at the inauguration on Monday in Abuja, the former First Lady said the “technical committee has become necessary as WODDI repositions itself to engage at the sub-regional, regional, and international levels to bridge gaps and foster growth.
“As an organization, moving into the international space means we must be mindful of the diverse landscapes, cultures, and needs of the people.
“Identifying and addressing gaps at these levels will be crucial for impactful engagement and sustainable development.”
The founder further stated that the WODDI aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, that are particularly relevant to the mission of the organization, such as: SDG 1: End Poverty in all its forms everywhere; SDG 2: Zero Hunger; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being; SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
She called on members of the technical committee to bring their best to the overall success of WODDI.
“Put in your best efforts, challenge the norms in a constructive way, and push the boundaries of what is possible. Collaboration will be key, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and lifting each other up to achieve greatness.
“WODDI deserves the best of you, and I have no doubt that together, we will achieve higher impacts for the benefits of the society.”
Mrs. Okorocha lamented the under-representation of Nigeria at different levels in decision-making, stressing that “WODDI supports the constitutional reform going on especially on the reserved seat Bill for Women to bring in more women representation at the policy-making level.”
Members of the technical committee include; Comrade Ene Obi, former Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, founder of Women in Politics Foundation, Bar. Ebere Ifendu, Professor Tunji Asaolu, Secretary General/CEO of United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD0, and Rt. Hon. Dr. Ngunan Addingi, former Benue State Commissioner.
Agenda 2063 is a blueprint for Africa’s transformation – with a specific Focus on Aspiration 6: An Africa, whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children.
