NAWOJ Felicitates as Ex-Chair Patricia Akawu Appointed General Manager NBS

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone D,, has congratulated the pioneer Chairperson of NAWOJ, Nasarawa State, Mrs. Patricia Akawu, on her appointment, as the General Manager (GM) of state-owned Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

In a congratulatory statement, NAWOJ Vice President, Zone D, Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche,  said the appointment was a testimony of her experience and leadership qualities while expressing optimism that she would discharge her duties within the best of her abilities given her track record of excellence.

Ogbeche, in the press statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Mrs Juliana Ofoku, noted: “The appointment of Mrs. Patricia Akawu as General Manager NBS did not come as a surprise, given her outstanding contributions to journalism and tireless advocacy for women’s rights.

“Her dedication and expertise have earned her this well-deserved recognition, and it is indeed a plus for the womenfolk to contribute to the development of Nasarawa State and the nation.”

She commended Governor Sule for considering one of the leaders of the Association in the zone, a seasoned journalist and administrator, for the appointment, adding that the appointment was the government’s recognition of the capacity of women to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s programmes and projects as well as the development of the state as a whole.

The vice president pledged the commitment and readiness of Nigerian women, especially in North Central, to contribute to governance and national development.

Mrs. Akawu, who until her appointment as GM, headed the Department of News and Current Affairs of the state-owned media and succeeds Aloko Flashman, who retired from service in May 2025.

NAWOJ Zone D comprises of Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau and the FCT
