The FCT Commissioner of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Mrs Comfort Taiwo has urged Guides and Brownies in the FCT to “learn new skills, make friends and allow their light to shine” in preparation for the future.
The Commissioner gave the charge at the state boot camp and enrollment ceremony held at Leeds British School Abuja.
The theme of the event is ‘Ignite the spark, lead the change.

The keynote speaker Francisca Ogar in her speech, stressed the importance of identifying their purpose, aligning with the right persons and being visible by allowing their voices to be heard.
According to her, there is no limit to what the guides can become in future if they make the right choices and stay away from the wrong company.
In her welcome address, the state commissioner reminded the guides that leadership begins with a spark and the passion to make a difference. She called on the girls to ” be the spark that lights up our schools, our communities,and indeed the nation.


The event featured enrollment of Guides and Brownies with the Commissioner decorating them with the badge after they were marched in with a whistle and made the take the guide and brownie promises respectively.
The boot camp cake was cut by officials present, representatives from the Guides and some parents present.
The first part of the two day event featured skill acquisition in soap making, Headscarf tying among other skills.

Present at the event outside the state commissioner were the assistant State commissioner Mrs Christiana Toluhi, the youth coordinator Ms Deborah Evbotokhai, the state trainer and others.
