FG Unveils Program for 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Launches Portal to Appreciate Veterans

Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has unveiled activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day with the theme  “VALOUR, SACRIFICE AND UNITY: HONOURING OUR HEROES.” The event, held at the National Defence College was attended by all the  Chiefs of Staff and aims to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel in defending the nation’s unity and sovereignty.

The Minister highlighted major security achievements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the neutralization of over 13,000 terrorists, arrest of 17,000 criminals, rescue of nearly 10,000 hostages, and Surrender of over 100,000 insurgents.

He also noted the destruction of more than 1,900 illegal refining sites as part of efforts to safeguard national assets.

Badaru reaffirmed the government’s commitment to troop welfare and veteran support through new initiatives such as the veterans’ data bank and an online platform for appreciating soldiers and veterans by scanning a QR code called “Thank a Soldier” QR code.

He Urged Nigerians to honor the fallen, support serving personnel, and wear the remembrance emblem with pride ahead of the  January 15, 2026 commemoration at the National Arcade.
