The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has formally notified the Senate of his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a letter.
In Senator Jarigbe’s letter which was read on the floor of the chamber by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibril, during Tuesday’s plenary session, the Senator cited deep-seated internal divisions within the PDP as the reason for his defection from the PDP.
“I write to formally notify you and the distinguished leadership of the Senate of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, on whose platform I was elected to represent the good people of Cross River North Senatorial District,” Senator Jarigbe said.
“The decision has been taken after a deep and thoughtful reflection on the current state of my former party. It is with profound regret that I cite the prevailing deep-seated and irreconcilable differences, as well as the persistent and deliberate factions within the party at both the national and state levels, as a primary reason for my departure.”
The lawmaker added that the APC offers a more stable and progressive platform for serving his constituents.
“In light of the foregoing, and in the best interests of my constituents and my continued pursuit of effective representation, I have decided to join the ranks of the All Progressives Congress.”
He was formally recieved by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril; Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno; other principal officers; and the APC Senate caucus.
Recall that the Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio has led Senator Jarigbe and his colleague to the Villa for a handshake with President Tinubu following his declaration of Defection.
