In a recent development, two suspected kidnappers have been arrested at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Sunday when they reportedly went to the hospital to check on an associate receiving treatment at the emergency ward. During their visit, they were identified by Doctor Bamidele, a medical practitioner who was kidnapped in January at Ibira Camp, Auchi, and later released after the payment of ransom.
Doctor Bamidele was said to have alerted hospital officials after recognizing the suspects as part of those involved in his abduction. The matter was immediately reported to security personnel on duty, who contacted the Auchi Divisional Police Station, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Community leaders, including Rilwanu Oshiobugie and the Daudu of Igbe, Yekini Sado, described the arrest as a major breakthrough in tackling kidnapping in Auchi and Edo North. The Edo State Police Command has confirmed that the suspects have been transferred to Benin City on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, for further investigation.
