SCP 2026: NiMet Warns Farmers Against Premature Farming,Predicts Early Onset of Rains

Early onset of rainfall has been predicted in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River , Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa and Oyo states while late onset is expected in Borno.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Department Festus Keyamo (SAN) made this known while presenting the highlights of Nigerian Meteorological Agency 2026 seasonal Climate Prediction.

A longer than normal rainy season was predicted for Lagos, Benue,Enugu, Ebonyi, Ogun, Oyo, Nasarawa Anambra, Kwara,Kebbi, Kaduna Gombe and Taraba State whereas Borno Yobe and Niger are to expect a shorter than normal rainy season.

He warned those engaging in rainfed agriculture and other rainfall dependent activities not to regard the serious rains experienced so far in some places as the onset of rainfall.

On his part. the Director General NiMet Prof. Charles Anosike in his address said NiMet remains committed to providing timely, accurate and reliable weather information to ensure that Nigeria builds a climate resilient economy
