NiMet DG Calls for Private Sector Involvement in Meteorology

By Ada Nkong

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate World Meteorological Day, the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has called on the private sector to invest in meteorological infrastructure to boost weather forecasting and climate monitoring.

Speaking in Abuja at the celebration of World Meteorological Day, with the theme ‘Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow’, Anosike said more needs to be done to meet the growing demands for meteorological information.

The DG lamented that adverse weather increasingly reduces the lifespans of weather monitoring equipment and noted that the demands currently placed on meteorological services are greater than ever before.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NiMet, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, noted that NiMet’s observation systems are crucial in keeping Nigeria informed and safe.
