SUNDAY DELIGHT 11_Ada Nkong

Lima had become used to the idea that T was over for good. She had decided to never do anything to make it seem as though, there was anything left between them.

She never called or even chatted him up. He would once in a while, get in touch, according to him,to ‘check on her’. She liked the fact that he showed the outmost respect for her marital status and always expressed his joy at the fact that they had both settled down.

The amazing thing was that, the evening preceding his phonecalls or chat, Lima would always dream of him. As if on cue, the next day, he would get in touch. She attributed it to the fact that they had been so close in the past, there seem to have forged a bond that was not willing to break completely.

On one or two occasions, he had called to say he was within her office area and would stop by, only to call later and say he had left because he had urgent stuff to do elsewhere. She understood perfectly. He seemed to be struggling between reigning his feelings and getting to see her. She respected him the more for being so descent and keeping his marriage safe.

Her closest friend and confidante, a coursemate from school had one day tried to caution her against rekindling the romance by communicating with an old flame. Lima laughed at him and assured him that it would never happen.’ We both respect our homes’ she had quipped.

She berated herself for letting him contact her, which she knew was making it more difficult for him to forget her completely.

One day, she called on her cousin Tracy. They were in the same age bracket and had shared some escapades as young girls. They were both married and spent time talking about the challenges of marital life.

Of course there was a limit to which Lima could discuss her lack listen relationship with her husband which was deteriorating by the day. He was a control freak, spent several hours away from home and was always accusing her of cheating with any male who as much as smiled at her. Their altercations were becoming frequent and because he was always drinking, he tended to be loud and embarrassed her with his loud accusations.

Tracy was oblivious of the extent of the problem ,but innocently observed that of all the guys who had flocked around her, including her husband, the one person who had truly loved Lima was Samuel.

Lima was shocked to hear this coming from Tracy, like all other family members of hers, she had been opposed to her relationship with Samuel. When and how did she come by this revelation. Tracy then revealed her role in giving Luna’s phone number to the woman who had given it to Samuel, solving a mystery of several years. She left Tracy’s heart in low spirits because for the first tine, she had heard from another person what she had always felt in her heart. She had allowed the love of her life go, and was condemned to a lifetime with someone who professed to love her but hurt her consistently with his actions and words.

Would she ever get a second chance at true love in this life?
