Reactions have continued to trail the death of a medical house officer at the Lagos state general hospital,Dr Diaso Vwaere who died in an elevator crash accident.
According to a statement by the Nigerian medical association secretary,Lagos state branch,Dr Ismail Ajibowo the late doctor was trapped in the elevator for over 40 mins before she was rescued when the elevator crashed.
The statement further said there was no available oxygen to resuscitate her when she was rushed to the hospital. A situation they described as recurrent.
While sympathizing with her family, colleagues and the Lagos state branch of the NMA, the association communicated it’s decision to go on a five day statewide mourning while the three government hospitals on Lagos Island are to proceed on indefinite strike till investigations are completed and justice served.
Doctors in other government hospitals were directed to scaled down activities to emergency services only for the next 5 days.
Other demands include a complete overhaul of the house officers quarters and revamping of the blood transfusion services in Lagos state.
