EOGA Unity Chapter April Born partner Legal Aid Council to Secure Release of Inmates

As part of activities to mark their birth month, Old Girls of Edgerley Memorial Girls Secondary School Calabar , Unity Chapter,  born in April , have partnered with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria to secure the release of some inmates at the correctional center in Keffi.

A total of 54 male and 9 female inmates within the age bracket of 21 to 40 , who were facing charges ranging from criminal breach of trust to assault and theft were interviewed from both the old and new correctional centers to pick those for assistance.

The Old Girls led by Diva Ivy Atimbang contributed a total of N277,000 to settle the fines  and secure the release of two male  inmates.

They also donated gift  items to the inmates at the old Keffi prison.

Diva Esther Iwu Emeritus Class Captain of 93 offered words of comfort to the inmates, assuring them that neither society nor the government had forgotten them.

She encouraged them to enhance themselves by taking advantage of the skills offered in the various rehabilitation programs to facilitate their reintegration into society.

Leading the delegation from the Legal Aid Council were the Head of Prison Decongestion, Mrs Ogechukwu Ihenegbu an assistant director.
