Set 24 Center LSD Group 5 Students Take GBV Advocacy to Jikwoyi

The Esu Jikwoyi ,His Royal Highness Rev Bawa Jetta has commended Group 5 Students of Set 24 Center for Leadership Strategy Development for enlightening the women of Jikwoyi on the forms, effects and response to gender based violence.

He made the commendation in his palace while receiving the group after a sensitization talk with Jikwoyi women at the Chief’s palace.

The Esu condemned all forms of violence against women, noting that women were created by God to compliment men and as such be treated with love and respect.

He noted with dismay the increasing spate of violence against women and girls with cases like rape, physical violence and economic violence on the increase. Sex he said must be with mutual consent and warned that not just the wrath of the law but also God’s punishment awaits perpetrators.

On his part, the group leader Mr Solomon Francis said the advocacy became necessary to encourage the women to speak out to ensure perpetrators are brought to book which will serve as a deterrent to others.

The facilitator Miss Rosemary Ojo in her presentation urged the women to speak out in the face of gender based violence. She said in the case of rape, survivors should not wash clothes  after the incident or bathe immediately after to prevent destruction of evidence.

Participants expressed joy and gratitude for the knowledge gained and promised to take the message to other women.

The women leader Mrs Blessing Boshara pledged that going forward, they would join hands to resist and expose all forms of violence against women
