The Director General, of Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau,NSIB Captain Alex Badeh Jr, has reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to working with state governments and relevant stakeholders to promote safer transportation systems in Benue State and across the country.
A Statement by Mrs Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe Director Public Affairs and Family Assistance says Captain Badeh made the commitment when he led a team to visit Wadata , Benue State for an on the spot safety assessment following a recent boat incident that claimed 11 lives .
In a meeting with the Governor after commissioning an investigation on the incident,Gov. Alia commended NSIB’s swift response and called for a stronger and sustained presence of the NSIB in the state to support ongoing advocacy and risk reduction activities along the River Benue.
Capt. Badeh expressed condolences to the government and people of Benue State, particularly the families of those who lost loved ones in the incident.
He described the tragedy as a painful reminder of the need for heightened safety consciousness and stronger compliance with safety measures across Nigeria’s inland waterways.
