A Nigerian residing in Germany, from Awkuzu, ,Oyi local government area of Anambra state, Ichie Okechukwu Okafor has raised an alarm over threats to his safety and possible electoral violence in his community.

Speaking at a press conference , Thursday in Abuja, Okafor said he had been wrongly accused of various crimes and spent five months in detention at the DSS where he was released haven not been found guilty

He however alleged that the source of his predicament is a syndicate in which the Igwe of his town, Prof. Charles Anikweze is involved.

According to Okafor, the Igwe though presently restrained by court action from acting as such without compliance, had been at the fore front of petitioning and leveling accusations against him which led to his incarceration because of his open disagreement with societal injustice like land grabbing and nepotism.

He further said after his release from DSS detention, attempts had been made on his life and property which he has duly reported to the relevant authorities though no action has been taken yet.

Ichie Okafor expressed fear that plots to oust the existing leadership structure in Awkuzu to replace with chronies could lead to a break down of law and order in the area resulting in electoral violence or scuttling of elections.

He therefore called for urgent action to be taken to prevent the issue which he described as a threat to national security from escalating.

Further more, he called on the DSS to look in his reports and investigate the issues reported by him to prevent further attempts on his life and that of his family as well as damage to his property, adding that gunmen had in 2021 ,May attacked his residence in Anambra and set his house and cars on fire.
