
The Nigerian meteorological agency NiMet has predicted severe thunderstorms with likelihood of strong winds and moderate rains in parts of Yobe, Borno, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi,
Jigawa, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Benue,
In its latest advisory, the agency says strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur and called on the public
to take adequate precaution and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision
They further urged those driving under the rain to exercise caution.
Farmers were also advised to avoid leaching of nutrients by refraining from applying fertilizer and pesticides right
before the rains.
They further advised Nigerians to disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets and to
Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.
Meanwhile,airline operators were advised to get airport-specific weather reports from
NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
